Chandrayaan1 – Its very memorial and pride moment for people of India

India’s first moon craft mission scripted and directed by ISRO is a highly advanced operation in terms of its technologies and scientific devices, researched and built indigenously. Sometime between October 19 and November 8, 2008, India is all set to take its first steps beyond the geo-stationary Orbit, when Chandrayaan-1 transits to the moon.

After being cleared by the Government of India five years ago, and after repeated delays, Chandrayaan-1 is finally ready for launch on October 22, 2008. If the weather conditions are not favorable, the Chandrayaan-1 late October 2008 launch will be postponed to November or December 2008 when the orbital plane of the moon will again be aligned for a fuel efficient transfer.

Chandrayaan-1 was built by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) along with partners such as HAL and carries 11 payloads, five from India and six from International agencies. This includes three from the European Space Agency (ESA) , one from the Bulgarian Aerospace Agency (BSA), and two from NASA.

Yaaaa….wooh… what exciting news!!!

Today, when I was working at my desk, I received a mail from my colleague saying,

“Coming October 17, 2008 the sun will rise continuously for 36 hrs (1.5 days). During this time the American countries will be dark for 1.5 days.

It will convert 3 days into 2 big days. It will happen once in 2400 yrs.
We’re very lucky to see this. Forward it to all friends.”

What the hell are you talking about?? Is it possible?? How?? (This was my first reaction to the mail)

As much as we know of the science of earth’s rotation, this does not seem possible. For it to happen the earth should stop rotating and be stuck for sometime at one place or else it should rotate at a slower pace. However, if this is true, I would like to know the scientific explanation behind this. I even tried to find some links of Google on this but could not…and then if the US is supposed to have 1.5 nights at a stretch, it means we in India will have 1.5 days at a stretch! I don’t think this is true or possible.

Well guys, i feel that we should wait n watch what will happen on October 17, 2008. If the information will be true then we must honor the person who has spread this information by giving him/her a good position at NASA. If it is not then start searching for that person…..
